Teams will be back in action again this week as they all head to the Jerez circuit in what is predicted to be a not too sunny Spain with rain forecasted for the majority of the four day session.
While most of the teams should be present, with Red Bull racing making their first appearance after launching the new RB6 as well as Lotus and Virgin, regular teams will also be on hand, including the Mercedes powered McLaren team.

Sauber: C29 meeting expectations

BMW Sauber’s technical director Willy Rampf says the team’s new car has matched its expectations following its maiden test at the Valencia circuit.
The Ferrari-powered C29 showed promising form in the first test in Spain, where it was the second fastest car behind the Ferraris.

Force India unfazed about missed test

Force India’s design director Mark Smith is confident the team will not be at a disadvantage despite having missed the first test of 2010.
The Silverstone-based squad decided to skip the Valencia test last week in order to have extra days of development before it kicks off its testing programme on Wednesday at Jerez.

Ferrari reveals Jerez testing plans

Fernando Alonso will kick off Ferrari’s testing on his home ground at Jerez in Spain this week, driving for the first two days before handing the car over to Felipe Massa.
The Spaniard was fastest of all in last week’s first pre-season test at Valencia, with the early indications suggesting that Ferrari has an early edge in its preparations for the 2010 season.

Klien still hoping for 2010 F1 seat

Christian Klien is still working to secure a Formula 1 seat for the 2010 season, despite his options narrowing with the recent announcements that Pedro de la Rosa and Vitaly Petrov will drive for Sauber and Renault respectively.
At present the only teams that still have vacancies for 2010 are Campos and US F1.

One of the new rules this season will see all drivers running on a fuel tank of fuel at the start for the race with refuelling through the event now banned altogether. That means that all twenty six runners will start with enough fuel to get them through the entire race.
Banning refuelling through the race is not new, in fact pre 1994 this practice was also in force and out of the current grid there are just two racers that were driving in that era, …

Lotus Cosworth roars into life

For the first time in twenty seven years a Lotus Cosworth engine has been successfully fired up just days ahead of the new team’s initial shakedown.
The V8 powerplant roared to life at the team’s Norfolk factory and despite a few technical delays, technical director Mike Gascoyne was very pleased.

Work continues on second Ferrari

The Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro is getting ready for this season’s second test session, on the agenda from 10 to 13 February at the Spanish Jerez de la Frontera circuit.
This morning the main part of the team will leave Maranello, including mechanics and the men working at the logistics, telemetry and electronics, while the engineers will arrive in Spain on Tuesday evening.

Virgin ready to go testing

Virgin Racing is all set to begin pre-season testing after successfully completing a two-day shakedown at Silverstone on the weekend.
Having conducted a few initial exploratory laps in the VR-01 on thursday, Timo Glock kicked things up a notch on day two, completing 42 laps of the 1.8km Stowe circuit during the morning.

All teams allowed to miss 3 rounds

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that any of the thirteen teams registered to take part in the rapidly approaching 2010 Formula One championship season can miss up to three races and not face any penalties, however there could be a problem if more than five teams choose to do so at one event.

Bridgestone gearing up for new season

Bridgestone Motorsport, the Official Tyre Supplier to the FIA Formula One World Championship, has completed the first group test of the exciting new 2010 season after three days at the 4.05 km Circuit Comunitat de la Valencia, in Spain.
This was the first opportunity for teams, drivers and observers to see in action the final specification of the new narrow front Potenza F1 tyre developed by Bridgestone for this season.

Ferrari stays realistic over testing pace

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali says he is not getting carried away by his team’s strong start to pre-season testing this week.
Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso dominated proceedings at Valencia in Spain with both drivers the only men to lap under the 1m12s barrier. Alonso ended up quickest of all with a best time of 1m11.470s.

New teams on course to make Bahrain

Team US F1 and Campos Meta 1 remain fully on course to make the start of the Formula 1 season, despite speculation suggesting both teams’ efforts could be in doubt.

Rossi says F1 move ‘difficult’ to envisage

Valentino Rossi says it is ‘difficult’ to imagine himself racing in Formula 1, despite his strong performance in his most recent Ferrari test having raised renewed speculation about a potential switch to car racing.
The MotoGP champion had seriously considered moving to F1 with Ferrari following a series of tests in 2006, but ultimately decided to remain in motorcycle racing.

Virgin car passes last crash test

Virgin Racing’s first Formula 1 car has passed the final compulsory FIA crash test ahead of its track outing at Silverstone on Thursday. The Cosworth-powered VR-01 was revealed on Wednesday before Timo Glock stepped into its cockpit for the Northamptonshire roll-out.
With the team proud to present F1’s first ‘all-digital’ car, developed only by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) with no use of a wind tunnel, the Nick Wirth-designed machine successfully passed the rear impact structure test ‘with flying colours’ on Tuesday night.

Mercedes heads delighted to confirm Heidfeld

The Mercedes team is thrilled to see Nick Heidfeld become part of its driver line-up ahead of the upcoming season. The appointment of the 32-year-old means that the Stuttgart manufacturer does indeed return to Formula 1 with three German drivers for 2010.
