Renault aims to be back on top by 2011

Renault aims to be back fighting for championship titles again by 2011 according to the team’s acting principal Bob Bell.
The future of Renault’s Formula 1 team was secured in mid-December when a deal to sell a large stake in the team to businessman Gerard Lopez’s Genii Capital was agreed, ending weeks of uncertainty over the French manufacturer’s continuation in the sport.

Branson wanted a challenge

Richard Branson, the man at the helm of Virgin racing, has revealed that he opted to go with a completely new team such as Manor, rather than continue on with Brawn, which is now Mercedes, after they won the 2009 drivers and constructors championship.
“The temptation might have been to write a big cheque to Brawn and stick with it for another season,” Branson was quoted as saying on infomotosport. “But when a team’s won, you can’t really do any better than winning. So we thought it was better to look …

Schumacher or Vettel ?

Just days after backing Michael Schumacher to secure his eighth world title in his comeback season next year, FOM boss Bernie Ecclestone has been quoted as saying the new Mercedes driver won’t be the one with the crown at the end of 2010, instead it will be his German colleague, Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel.

Piero Ferrari: Schumacher not disloyal

Piero Ferrari has dismissed suggestions that Michael Schumacher is betraying Ferrari by making a Formula 1 comeback with Mercedes.
The son of company founder Enzo Ferrari believes the Mercedes move was a pragmatic one as Ferrari had no spare seats, rather than a snub to the team Schumacher had been with since 1996.
“It’s true that we were a bit disappointed, because Michael had become our symbol,” Ferrari told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Stefan GP aims to test F1 rookies

Stefan Grand Prix plans to fund its 2010 testing plans through a young driver development programme that will earn Formula 1 rookies valuable mileage, infomotosport has learned.
The Serbian-based team, which is still pushing for a slot on next year’s grid but will test instead if it does not get an entry, has already secured a preliminary agreement with the former Toyota team to use its car and other facilities.
Although details of the team’s backers are not expected to be confirmed prior to an official launch in late January, team owner …

Ferrari: F1 must solve its problems

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says that Formula 1 needs to find answers to its problems as soon as possible if his Maranello outfit is to stick with the sport for the long-term.
At the end of a year Ferrari came the closest it has ever been to quitting F1, in the wake of the row over cost cuts and future rules, and di Montezemolo has again warned that the Scuderia is seeking further improvements over the next few years.
Ferrari is currently only committed until the end of 2012 and di …

Multi-year Formula 1 agreement for Speed TV

American TV channel Speed TV and Formula One Management have reached an agreement to extend a relationship that dates back to 1996, the network’s first full season on the air. Speed TV will continue to offer its long-running live coverage of the FIA Formula One World Championship, including live coverage of qualifying and practice sessions.

Alonso coming to Ferrari at just the right time

The biggest change for Ferrari in the upcoming 2010 Formula One championship season is definitely the addition of Fernando Alonso in the driver line-up alongside Felipe Massa.
“We have been watching him since 2007 and Domenicali discussed it with me this summer,” recounted Luca di Montezemolo, addressing journalists at Ferrari’s Christmas dinner. “He is an extremely talented driver, quick and good at working with a team, while being totally focussed on winning. I think he is coming to Ferrari at just the right time in his career.”

Campos insists F1 plans on course

The Campos Meta Formula 1 team insist its plans to move into grand prix racing are firmly on course – despite Bernie Ecclestone’s doubts.
Ecclestone told The Times earlier this week that he was unsure if all the new teams would make it onto the grid in Bahrain – and singled out Team US F1 and Campos as the ones with the most questions surrounding them.
Campos has insisted, however, that it is not only firmly on course but its investment makes it more committed than ever.

Rosberg thrilled at Schumacher return

Nico Rosberg says he is excited about the prospect of racing alongside Michael Schumacher in 2010 – even though he accepts it is going to be a tough challenge to overcome the seven-time champion.
Rosberg signed for Mercedes GP before it was clear who his team-mate would be, but has shown no signs of being worried about the prospect of going up against Schumacher.
“It is fantastic that Michael is returning to Formula 1 and will be my team-mate at Mercedes GP,” said the German. “It’s a great challenge for me to …
