Stefan GP confident of F1 place

The Stefan Grand Prix team is still hopeful the FIA will allow the Serbian squad to race in Formula 1 this year.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the team said it wanted to reconfirm its ability to race in the 2010 season, despite not yet having an entry.

Villeneuve set for Stefan seat fitting

Jacques Villeneuve is set to have a seat fitting in Stefan GP’s car in Cologne on Monday, infomotosport has learned.
Team boss Zoran Stefanovic has said that the 1997 world champion is close to a deal with the Serbian squad, which continues to push for a place in the 2010 Formula 1 field.

Trulli: Lotus can’t fight existing teams

Jarno Trulli is not expecting Lotus to be able to fight with any of the established Formula 1 teams in the first four races of the season.
The Italian had his final day of pre-season testing in the T127 at Barcelona today, where his best time was 4.3 seconds down on the pace set by Nico Rosberg.

Lopez manager admits Campos talks

Jose Maria Lopez’s manager Felipe McGough says talks are underway between Campos owner Jose Ramon Carabante and US F1 investor Chad Hurley to secure a deal that will ensure Lopez can race in Formula 1 this year.
With uncertainty surrounding US F1’s plans, the American team’s already-signed driver Lopez has been linked to a switch to Campos. McGough confirmed that Carabante, who took sole control of Campos last week, and entrepreneur Hurley were trying to find a solution for Lopez.

Duke of York visits Lotus

Just one day after Lotus Racing’s Hingham factory was officially opened by former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir, the team played host to HRH The Duke of York. Team Principal Tony Fernandes and Chief Technical Officer Mike Gascoyne gave the Duke an official tour of the team’s facility and presented him with a commemorative set of his own Lotus Racing overalls.

US F1 insider: Hurley can save team

Team US F1 backer Chad Hurley is the man who has the best chance of saving the outfit from its current troubles, claims a senior staff member at the American operation.
With the team’s car development plans weeks behind schedule, while it bids to try and skip the opening four races, there are mounting fears that the outfit could lose its place on the grid entirely if matters are not turned around.

Soucek confident he will drive soon

Andy Soucek is confident he will get to drive the Virgin VR01 very soon after signing a contract to be the new team’s reserve driver.
The Formula 2 champion has joined Virgin Racing after Portuguese Alvaro Parente, originally expected to take that position, lost one of his backers.
Although Soucek will be working with the team in the upcoming Barcelona test, Virgin suggested the Spaniard is only going to work outside of the car.

Soucek joins Virgin as reserve driver

Formula 2 champion Andy Soucek has joined the Virgin Racing team as its reserve driver for the 2010 season, it was announced on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old Spaniard replaces Portuguese Alvaro Parente, whose deal with Virgin fell through after losing one of his sponsors.
Soucek had been actively working on a deal to secure an F1 seat, the Spaniard being linked previously with a move to the Campos Meta team.

Goodbye USF1, hello Stefan

With the USF1 team confirming that they are having cash flow problems and are looking to the FIA to smile favourably upon them and grant them permission to miss the first four races of the season, something that looks more and more unlikely to occur, all eyes turn to Stefan Grand Prix as the ones to take their place in the 2010 Formula One world championship if the American based outfit fails to make it.

Stefan GP cancels Portimao test

Stefan GP has abandoned plans to test at Portimao in Portugal this week after failing to secure a supply of tyres to run on, infomotosport can reveal.
The Serbian-based team has its new car, the Toyota-based Stefan 01, all ready to hit the track following a fire-up in Cologne last week, but its failure to obtain tyres from Formula 1’s official tyre supplier Bridgestone has scuppered its bid to begin testing.

Wirth admits Virgin behind schedule

Virgin Racing technical director Nick Wirth has admitted that the persistent hydraulic problems his team suffered at Jerez this week have delayed its test programme.
Wirth said the intention had been to bring aerodynamic developments to Barcelona next week, but with Lucas di Grassi and Timo Glock only able to complete 144 laps between them over the past four days at Jerez, Virgin will now have to keep focusing on reliability work in the final test.

US F1 seeks permission to miss races

US F1 co-founder Ken Anderson has admitted that he is in discussion with the FIA to reach an agreement that will allow for the new team to miss the first four races of the 2010 Formula 1 season.

Stefan GP fires up Formula 1 car

Stefan GP’s Formula 1 car has been fired up as the Serbian squad pushes on with its plans to race this year despite not having an entry.
The SF01 car, which was designed by Toyota before the Japanese manufacturer decided to leave F1, is scheduled to make its track debut at the end of the month at the Portimao circuit in Portugal.

USF1 – are you there ?

Rumours surrounding the demise of US F1 continued overnight especially after someone discovered that the server used to host the Charlotte based squad’s website was down, indicating to them that the team had folded and their website pulled. That however is not the case with the server coming back on line and the site being still there as bold as life.
